What is an agunah?

An agunah (the plural of which is agunot) is a woman who is no longer in a functional marriage and whose husband cannot or will not give her a Jewish divorce (in Hebrew, Get).

The document issued by a Beit Din (Jewish court) identifying an individual as being in contempt of court is called a seiruv in Hebrew, the plural of which is seiruvim. A Beit Din will issue a seiruv to a recalcitrant spouse for failure to address his or her spouse's needs in Beit Din.

Stop the Abuse!
To date ORA has directly helped 70 women receive Jewish divorces, and has provided consultations to many more. While this is a proud accomplishment, there is still much to be done.
